Case Study: Tool Control For A Commissioning Crew

A die-cut industrial instrument case with printed part numbers, a firmer foam grade for heavy tools and a calibration plate at the case.

Situation

A commissioning contractor was losing time on site searching for specific sockets and gauges, and losing calibration traceability on two instruments.

01

Customer requirement

One case per crew, contents verifiable in seconds, calibration status readable at the case.

02

Equipment dimensions

Two instruments plus a mixed hand-tool set totalling 27 items.

03

Protection requirements

Heavy hand tools must not creep into soft foam over months of use.

04

Case selection

A 6-series shell with a 3.5 mm wall and a removable lid tray.

05

Interior design

Die-cut silhouette per tool with the part number printed into the foam.

06

Foam solution

A firmer EVA carrier under the tools, a soft PE layer under the instruments.

07

Customisation

Navy shell, printed logo, riveted identification plate for the calibration record.

08

Production

Forty-five days from the approved tool list.

09

Packaging

Carton-packed with a printed contents card in each case.

10

Delivery

EXW Zhongshan, collected by the contractor agent.

What came out of it

  • A visible empty slot replaced a written inventory check, and the crew stopped returning to the vehicle for missing tools.
  • The calibration plate moved the traceability check to the point of use, which is where it had been failing.
On confidentiality

Client names, order values and programme details are withheld where the customer requires it. The dimensions and construction described here are the ones we produced to.
