Bespoke protective case moulds: when a new mould is justified, what information is needed, the 125-day programme and the economics of tooling.
A new mould buys a distinctive shape, an exact external footprint or a structural feature no stock shell has. It also buys four months of lead time and a capital cost, so it has to be justified.
Confirm the geometry cannot be met by a stock shell with usable clearance
Freeze the equipment envelope, the stacking requirement and the hardware positions
Mould design and flow analysis; gate, cooling and parting-line review with the customer
Mould machining, normally inside the 125-day programme
Trial shots, dimensional sign-off against the drawing, then production release
Above roughly 3,000 units per year of one geometry, a mould usually pays for itself against the cost of accepting a compromise shell. Below that, we will show you the closest stock model instead.
Before you commit
Who owns the mould?
Ownership is agreed in the tooling contract before cutting starts. Where the customer funds the tool, the mould is held for that customer production and is not used for third parties.
What is the lead time?
One hundred and twenty-five days from confirmed drawing and deposit when a new mould is required.
