Case Study: An Outdoor Brand Moving From A Generic Case To Its Own
A private-label protective case programme: colour-matched resin, printed logo, a designed interior and a published replenishment schedule.
An outdoor equipment brand had been buying a generic case and relabelling it. The label peeled, the colour varied between batches, and the interior did not match their accessory list.
Customer requirement
A case that looks like their product, with a repeatable colour and an interior matched to their accessory list.
Equipment dimensions
Their own product plus six accessories, none of which fitted the generic interior.
Protection requirements
Weather resistance for field use, and a closure that could be opened with gloves.
Case selection
A 7-series shell, chosen for a flat lid panel that would take a screen-printed logo.
Interior design
CNC base for the product, pluck-foam lid for the accessories.
Foam solution
Cross-linked PE, selected for cleanability and low particle shedding.
Customisation
Brand-matched colour on a trial-shot approval, screen-printed logo, moulded-in brand mark on a later tool revision.
Production
Forty-five days for the first release, then a rolling replenishment schedule.
Packaging
Retail-ready carton with the brand barcode and a printed insert.
Delivery
FOB Shenzhen, consolidated with the brand other products.
What came out of it
- Colour variation was solved by approving a trial shot before release rather than by specifying a tighter tolerance after the fact.
- The brand moved from an annual spot purchase to a scheduled replenishment, which removed the stock-out risk that had been forcing air freight.
